HILDA 3D 12 Lines model LS055 Green Laser Level Review

The cheapest 3D laser level with cone prisms – HILDA 3D LS055 Green projecting 12 lines, or rather three planes of 360 degrees of green color.

The device is really inexpensive, only $ 60. Agree this is just a funny price for such a laser level of 3×360°. But… but… but. All these “but” we just now and analyze, so do not rush to order without reading the review to the end.

Well, if you can’t wait to buy it, and you are ready for any turn of events, then below are two buttons with the best offers.

Where to buy a laser level profitably and reliably?

Appearance and design of the HILDA 3D 12 Lines laser level.

The closest competitor in this price category is also the green 3D laser level DEKO DKLL12PB1. Therefore, if you are set up to buy an inexpensive laser level with three planes of 360 degrees, then at least I recommend comparing these two models.

Due to the really low price, this model was placed in the last line of the Top 7 best 3D laser levels 3×360.

HILDA 3D Laser Level Housing

Build Quality

Laser level HILDA 3D 12 Lines is made of low-quality cheap plastic, which is sometimes covered with a thin layer of rubber. Rubber here has only a decorative character, it does not perform any protective function.

The pairing of both parts and rubber is not ideal, to say the least. Compare, for example, with the same Huepar GF360G, and, as they say, feel the difference. Although, again, the price of the latter is 2 times higher.

The coupling of plastic parts and the fit of rubber in HILDA 3D LS055.

The build quality of the housing at the HILDA 3D laser level is very weak. In addition to a large number of small untreated areas of plastic and rubber, you can see the remnants of sticking glue at the side of the protective tower.

Visible adhesive residue of the glued side protective tower.

But then again, what did you want for $ 50? High-quality 3D level? This is unreal!

By the way, I must say that only the side tower is glued. The other two are attached to the slots of the housing, because they are involved in its disassembly.

Battery compartment. Disassembly of the battery.

The laser level HILDA 3D 12 Lines does not have a battery compartment as such. The battery is simply installed along the rails and snaps into place.

It can be assumed that over time, the battery may stop being fixed and will fall out from the slightest movements. This is only one of the possible scenarios.

The HILDA 3D 12 Lines has an open battery seat.

With such an installation of the battery and the assembly of the housing as a whole, it is almost impossible to determine the degree of protection of the device from dust and moisture according to the international classifier.

Basically, for laser levels, this is IP54. But to meet this code, you need at least to have a full-fledged battery compartment that closes through a rubber gasket, for example, like the 3D laser level Huepar 603CG.

The battery can be charged either installed on the device during operation, or separately. Charging takes place through the connector on the battery.

The battery itself is easy to disassemble, you just need to unscrew two bolts.

Inside are two popular 18650 batteries without any identification marks or any other information. Therefore, it is also impossible to say that they are at least lithium-ion. If you remember, the new model HILDA 4D 16 Lines battery is very similar.

Laser modules

The brand of the installed laser modules is also unknown. But we can definitely say that these are some of the most inexpensive manufacturers.

Although it is necessary to pay tribute here, the projected lines are quite thin and bright. For specific tests on the brightness and thickness of laser lines, see the review below.

Such laser modules are installed in the laser level HILDA 3D 12 Lines model LS055.

Threads for mounting on accessories

At the base of the laser level HILDA 3D 12 Lines (LS055) is a 1/4″ thread for mounting on a tripod or any other optional accessories.

1/4" thread for mounting

The same 1/4-inch thread is located at the top of the protective tower of the horizontal laser emitter. For mounting on a wall mount.

It is installed not upside down, and in the normal working position.

By the way, it is because of this threaded sleeve that the minimum distance from the horizon to the ceiling has slightly increased – up to 1.6 cm.

Control element

Here, too, not everything is so unambiguous. In general, the control of the laser level HILDA 3D LS055 Green 12 Lines is quite convenient and thoughtful.

The only toggle switch on in the turn sector of about 40° simply turns back and forth without any useful action.

I understand that I find fault with the laser level for such a price, but so many small flaws do not give me peace of mind.

The touch control panel, on the contrary, was surprisingly very responsive. Even slight touches can be read very clearly.

Touch control panel laser level HILDA 3D 12 Lines model LS055.

In both positions of the toggle switch “OFF” or “ON”, the touch panel is active. Therefore, if you want to make a marking at an angle, then the lines can be turned on when the compensator is blocked. The lines in TILT mode are glowing continuously, without blinking.

The algorithm for switching planes in laser level HILDA 3D 12 Lines is the same in all modes:

Button “OUT/H” – enables and disables the horizontal plane.

The first press of the “V” button – turns on one front vertical.

The second click – one side vertical.

The third click – enables both verticals at the same time.

In this way, you can manage all the planes individually. This is a really convenient algorithm.

Yes, such a moment. When you turn on the toggle switch, the planes do not light up until you press the touch panel. And there are no other notifications about the unlocked compensator either. Therefore, you need to be careful not to take the device with an unlocked compensator abruptly.

The designation “OUT” on the button implies the activation of the receiver mode, but it is not here, keep this in mind.

Compensator laser level HILDA 3D 12 Lines

Inside the HILDA 3D, a standard magnetic compensator of the pendulum type is installed, which has a quite good installation time – about 4 seconds.

The range of operation of the compensator is ± 4 degrees. Thus, it turns out that if you install the device on a surface with a slope in this range, the system will compensate for this slope and project lines with an acceptable error. This is of course subject to a serviceable compensator and compliance with the declared accuracy.

If the slope of the surface is more than 4°, the device will beep and the laser lines will flash rapidly. Such an alarm system will allow you to avoid mistakes when marking, since in order to continue marking, you will need to put the laser level on a flatter surface with an inclination of no more than 4 degrees.

The physical locking of the pendulum when the device is turned off is normal here.

Functional capabilities

HILDA 3D LS055 12 Lines should undoubtedly be attributed to the household laser level. Although the claimed accuracy is at the level of professional devices, the truth is that it still needs to be checked.

If we ignore all the shortcomings, then for just $ 50 we get:

  • three planes of 360 degrees (green color!),
  • all the convenience of cone prisms when projecting the plane at a minimum distance along the walls and ceilings,
  • a full plumb line at the intersection of verticals,
  • convenient algorithm for switching planes,
  • network operation,
  • rotary base included. (We will consider it later)

Among the cons, you can highlight the lack of the ability to work on simple batteries and the lack of a mode of operation with the receiver for marking on the street in daylight.

In general, the laser level is ambiguous, it’s up to you to buy or not, I’m sure that a perfectionist will not like it.

Laser line thickness at different distances

In this test, the laser level HILDA 3D LS055 performed quite well, despite the unknown laser modules.

The thickness at 1 meter was – 1 millimeter! An excellent indicator.

The thickness of the laser line at a distance of 1 meter.

At 5 meters less than 2 mm. Also great.

The thickness of the laser line at a distance of 5 meter.

And at 10 meters, the line thickness was slightly less than 3 mm! This is a really cool result! The brightness is also good.

Possibility of mounting on various tripods

As I wrote earlier, there is a single 1/4-inch thread at the base. But also included is a rotary base with three micro-screws. This base has a 5/8″ thread, that is, in fact, it can be an adapter from 1/4″ to 5/8″.

Swivel base with three screws and a thread for mounting on a tripod.

The base itself is made entirely of metal. The upper platform rotates very smoothly around its axis, it can be rotated both by hand and with a screw. BUT! As it turned out later – it turns crookedly. Thus, when turning, the device begins to emit a signal that the slope is exceeded.

I can’t say that they are all like this, but I personally came across such a problem.

When reversing, there is an idle stroke of the screw, about two turns, and only then does the rotation begin in the other direction.

The two lower screws move the entire platform forward-backward and right-left.

There is a bubble level on the base for spatial setting. The position of the bubble is adjusted by three legs, which can be completely unscrewed.

Checking for accuracy and adjustment

Checking

Than than, and the accuracy of this copy pleased. The laser level is simply perfectly adjusted, the accuracy is really higher than declared, and corresponds to an accuracy of ± 0.1 mm per 1 meter. (How to correctly calculate the error in laser levels with cone prisms)
Verticals are also normal.

Results of checking the accuracy of the HILDA 12 Lines horizon for four sectors.

But if you read the feedback from other people, you can understand that not everyone is as lucky as me. Here I must say that the accuracy can be affected by low-quality delivery. Initially, all devices are adjusted in accordance with the declared characteristics.

Adjustment

Laser level HILDA 3D 12 Lines can be adjusted independently, but it is not very convenient to do this, since the housing is disassembled into two halves along, and not across, for example, like the laser level Huepar 902CG.

To disassemble the housing, you need to unscrew the four visible bolts and remove the touch panel.

The photo shows two large bolts on the pendulum. They adjust the position of the pendulum. If you have all the planes have the same slope in one direction, then these bolts adjust the position of the pendulum during installation, change the center of gravity.

Bolts for adjusting the position of the pendulum.

One bolt is responsible for the longitudinal displacement of the pendulum, the second for the transverse. Screwing in or unscrewing the bolts will attract the center of gravity of the pendulum. For example, if you slightly unscrew the longitudinal bolt, it will begin to put more pressure on the back of the pendulum, thereby lifting the front part of the horizontal plane.

The setup is quite simple if you imagine in which direction the plane will tilt when screwing or unscrewing a particular bolt.

If only one plane needs to be corrected, then the position of a separate laser tube is adjusted for the plane that needs to be corrected. This is done with three screws at the base of the tube.

Three screws on the laser tube to adjust its position.

The whole complexity of the setup is that you will have to assemble the housing from time to time to check the result after twisting a particular bolt.

Contents of delivery

The laser level HILDA is delivered in a bag with cells made of polyurethane foam. The bag contains:

  1. laser level
  2. lithium battery
  3. rotary base
  4. charger
  5. user manual
The entire set of laser level HILDA 3D LS055 12 Lines is packed in a transport bag.

Pros and cons

Very cheap, three planes of 360°, green color of laser lines, thin lines, small deviation, full plumb line, working with a blocked compensator, working from the network, convenient switching of planes.

Low build quality, cheap materials, no battery compartment, not very reliable battery mount, the swivel base has a critical deviation when turning.

In the end, I want to say that really it’s all about the price. Some people, in order to save money, try to make a laser level themselves. They buy laser modules, bearings, and other parts separately. But with this model, there’s no need for that. This is a ready-made solution in a plastic case for the same money.

If you have the same or similar laser level, it will be interesting to read your review, which can be left below.

    Hi there:
Today (20 Jul 2022) I received one of these Hilda 3D 12 line levels. Straight from China took five days. I am amazed at the apparent quality of the device. This one seems better finished that the one pictured in your review. Time will tell how durable it is but I only need it for intermittent DIY.

Only unpacked and tried in a few rooms. Three strong green lines.
